Absence Is Delicious

My ears are jammed full
Of old water and electric cotton
And the tension in my veins
Is indicative of my inability
To learn my lessons
Why can’t I stop borrowing
Against the lesions I’m incubating
I blame
The exhaustion of overload
And chemical saturation
In equal measure

My concepts failing
To convey themselves
Across the perceptual gulf
Have left me here
Not forgotten
Just innocuous
Lonely
The Island
Awash
A crowded sea
You
A room
Spaces
Insurmountable
