H is for Apple (Poem 30 of 30: 2016)

It’s finally here
An end to April
I’m thankful, admittedly
The past few weeks
Have been cold buckwheat honey
So much to do
A marathon of obligation
A gauntlet of distraction
That old life versus attainment
Of means to keep the fucking lights on
I want breezes and living highs
But every day is working
Toward an unforeseeable end
This concerns me
When I get a chance to look around
I realize the all to familiar
April is here again
How many, now, behind me
How many left ahead
How much will I leave
Unchecked in the bucket
If I keep prioritizing pentagons and papers
Over connection to the one in others
