To My Valentine

I prefer to immortalize today
The truest thing I could ever say to a lover:

Today I care enough not to bash your head in
With the porcelain back of the toilet
Even though the thought has cast its shadow
More than once over my mind’s eye

And at the very least,
I hope you’ll wait at least a little while longer
Before spiking my espresso
With the arsenic you’ve been saving for a rainy day
That we might fuck each other at least one more time

Because to love you is to hate you
To fuck you is to kill you
And like every orgasm we’ve ever given each other
The chemical signature of our lust
Is as ephemeral as everything else

It has no guarantee of freshness
We live and part on moments
Grateful that we cared enough
Not to murder each other while we slept

So let’s fuck, and ignore the expiration date
